Spaghetti with Braised Kale

Kale?! Yes please! This has quickly become my favorite dish right now. My mom found a recipe that actually makes kale taste good! And I have been craving it so much lately....  The health benefits make it even better! fiber, antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, cardiovascular support, vitamin K, A and C. I wonder if maybe all the  Parmesan cheese I load it with cancels out all the healthiness of the kale.... hehe

So this post is all about some photo geekery. Apologies if it leads anyone to boredom....

So these photos I've posted once before but wanted to share it next to another shot of the same thing, same light. Most of the time I will shoot with my digital camera, but I like to try to get a few shots with my film camera as well (just for my own nerdy personal reasons). I don't always show both because I wait so long to get my film developed. But I am going through some old negs and am going to show a few.

My heart will always belong to film. Hopefully you can see why in these photos... I think film has truer colors and richer tones. And maybe nobody else would notice but I do and that is all that matters... hahaha

In the soup photos the colors in the film photo are truer. Notice the green of the kale. Way more appetizing!

In these engagement photos the sky and the mountains in the distance get lost in the digital photo. The film is able to still pick them up even with how harsh the sun was that day.

Baby A and Baby J

My Goodness! I can't even tell you how amazed I am with this new mother! Just spending the afternoon with her and her amazing and helpful husband my eyes were opened to a whole new world of twins! Marianne is an old friend from high school and I was so excited when she asked me to photograph her sweet little baby girl and boy. She is a woman of many talents. As you can tell from the photos we took at her home, she is also a very talented interior designer and she does floral design! Is there anything she can't do? I think not.

Meet her new sweeties. I like to imagine they will grow up to be the best of friends. The only time we could get both of them asleep at the same time was when they were cuddled up together. So much fun!
 

 


 













2011 International Conference on Food Styling and Photography 1.1

I'm finally posting photos from my trip to Boston. hehe

Last June I went to the International Conference on Food Styling and Photography in Boston. I absolutely love photographing food and really wanted to learn how to break into the business of food photography. I can't say I learned how to break into the business here in Utah but I did learn a lot about food photography and styling and I met a lot of amazing photographers and stylists. I am so glad I went and would love to go again. And when I talk about food photography I'm talking beyond food blogs.... I think it would be pretty rad to do it as a profession. I still don't know how to do that with my current circumstances, but I'm going to keep photographing food when I can and stay open to that possibility. :)

Okay on with the conference!

The first day I had signed up for a workshop, where we got to meet, talk to and watch the greats in food photography and food styling. There was so much going on and so many beautiful foods and dishes and styling tools. It felt like Christmas in June, but for nerds who like photographing food.... hahahha! Man! I might be willing to kill someone for some of this stuff to shoot food with. Just sayin.... ;)







  

 












April's Maternity Session

Seriously, though how can I not blog these? I am so excited about these photos.April is simply stunning. She definitely has that new mother glow. It was hard to narrow my favorites down for this post. Thank you April for being so many of my firsts and thanks to her wonderful husband, Tony, for letting us take over his house. hehe

This is the beautiful Jessica and some photos from her bridals we did in August. I loved getting to know this sweet sweet girl and her amazing family. I got to spend the evening hanging out with Jessica and her beautiful mom and sister. Aren't her red shoes so stinkin' cute! Love love love.
