Kayla, Maddy and Katie

It has been a long time since I've posted. I've been busy playing, alright! I spent memorial weekend in St George and a week and a half visiting my little sister in New Mexico. I'll post about my summer adventures another time. Right now I am excited to share these pictures of my chute nieces and their friend Katie. I love hanging out with these crazy girls. We always have so much fun just being silly and laughing. they are my little buddies. :)
They have been waiting so patiently and I am driving to their house to hand deliver their photos in about 30 minutes. In the mean time.....

Glennys moment

So yesterday I had a major "Glennys moment." As I get older I am reminded how much I am just like my mom. Although she has many admirable qualities there are few things that as a girl I swore I would Never do when I was a mom. Well yesterday I did one of those things I swore I would Never do. And I did it in true Glennys fashion. Lets just say I'm makin' momma proud.

Sydney has been riding her bike to school with some other kids in our neighborhood. She has loved this new arrangement and it has been especially nice for me. I love being able to get home from work and settle into mom mode after work before she gets home.

Well yesterday she wasn't able to make it to the meeting point in time to ride bikes with her friends. She decided this morning to test how serious I was when I said "No. You can't wear a skirt without tights today. It's too cold." After trying to walk out of the house twice with a skirt and no tights she was late and I had to take her to school. Somehow I managed to forget that event of the morning and went home after work and started culling through some photos.

Around 4:00 she came through the door, pleasant as usual, and found me in the office and brought to my attention that because I forgot to pick her up she had to walk home alone. My first thought: I'm a bad mom, my little 7 year old had to walk home all by herself! It's not that far of a walk but I remember it being far when I was that age and my mom forgot us. It just brought me back to my childhood. I remember thinking "how could you forget that you have kids......."

After apologizing profusely to her she handed me a yellow flower and said, "I got this for you. I was thinking, well you didn't pick me up but you deserve it." She was surprisingly forgiving and way more forgiving than I ever was. She may not be so understanding if I have too many "Glennys moments."

Dinner at the Warehouse

I can't post these photos without giving a little history.

When Sydney first came to live with us at the sweet age of three she insisted on eating only ice cream, pancakes, and cereal. Of course, me being raised by the mom that I was, decided early on that this was not going to fly. After much trial and error we found a few other things she was willing to eat. Over time I have added items to her diet. She will now eat some vegetables and fruit including: bananas, apples if she must, cantaloupe, watermelon, peaches, carrots, corn, and her newest addition is cooked broccoli with butter on it.

Eating and mealtime at our house has always been a struggle for Sydney, as I was raised eating everything that was made and you eat it fast or you may not get any. There were six of us and I had three older brothers so we were grateful to get what we got. I may be just as stubborn as she is because I refuse to make a separate meal for her, especially when she wants pancakes. Call me cruel but I've learned that her tastes change from day to day depending on what she would rather be eating and her mood.

Eventually she realizes she likes something after you introduce it to her enough times. For example, she now claims cooked broccoli with butter is her favorite food. (It was a shock to all of us)

Well this is just another dinner at the warehouse.

Utah Food Photographer: Spinach with "vintage vinegar"

I am finally posting more photos from my online photo class. This was my lunch that I was eating while photographing the goodies, spinach with "vintage vinegar," whatever that is. My mom uses it. I'm not quite sure how that is any different from regular vinegar, except that it is really old. It tasted the same too me. note to self: old vinegar tastes the same a "new" vinegar. And how is anyone going to know if the vinegar, in that little, dark bottle, labeled "vintage vinegar," is old or not.

Happy Birthday to Meeeeeeee

“Utah
Whelp! Here's to another year.... Okay, 25 was probably the hardest birthday ever because after 4 years of marriage and knowing exactly what the next 5 and 10 years was going to look like,  I found myself newly divorced.  I had never imagined myself 25 and single for the second time. Turning 27 was a hard because it seemed like I was no longer in my mid twenties but I had moved over the hump into my late twenties.  And here I am at 28. I think I've had a whole year at 27 to get over the fact that I am now in my late twenties and I feel unexpectedly hopeful for the future.  Although 30 seems super old considering how little I've accomplished in the past 10 years, I am surprisingly okay with being 28 (almost 30) and single, with no kind of real career. :)
Oh and on a side note, I thought it would be fun to make my favorite Orange Marmalade Cupcakes for everyone for my birthday. So only my visiting teacher has declined because she's on some kind of no sugar diet.  Lame.   But I brought a tray to work and I think I'll double the recipe next time.

For the Love of Food

I recently took an online photo class with Nicole Hill Gerulat. For my final assignment I decided to photograph some food. I remembered how much I love food. I love to eat it.  I love how it looks and smells. I love to photograph it. And I'm sure if I knew how I would love to make it too. Hahaha! I'm still working on that. I've been working on it for a while. So far I only feel semi-comfortable with baking goodies. mmmm. My favorite. Okay so these are some whoopie pies that didn't work out so well in the baking department. But I like the photos. And they still tasted good, of course! :)

Spring Or The Lack Thereof

Seriously the weather has been so crazy lately and the fact that we were having snow in late April is just messed up! The saddest part of it is that we won't even have much of a spring before summer comes. I managed to get some quintessential  macro flower shots before all the recent snow storms. I know it's a little cliche to take pictures of flowers with a macro lens. But oh well. It was my first time playing with a macro lens.... So I did it and it felt good! So there!

Easter

Gahhhhh! I'm finally posting my pics from Easter. Yay me! Mychellie, Robbie Baby and their kids got to stop at our house on their exodus from Alaska to New Mexico. I can't get enough of Hudson. He's so stinkin' cute. Oh and the Easter bunny brought these little chickens that pooped gum. Which reminds me,  Mychellie decided that this year the Easter bunny's poop becomes edible on Easter. So she left little piles of whoppers all over the house. The kids didn't seem to think it was as cool as we did.
